“Pathways to Health” began in 2003. Before that time I had been working in different capacities, both in the UK and abroad, and in 2001 I decided I wanted to become a therapist.
I first qualified as a reflexology practitioner at Caritas School of Reflexology in Nottingham. The qualification was with the Association of Reflexologists. Afterwards, at the same school I obtained the Indian head massage practitioner’s certificate.
During the following three years I became interested in A.R.T. (Advanced Reflexology Training) as pioneered by Tony Porter. This involved attending seminars to learn new, more powerful techniques of reflexology. I completed this in October 2006 when I attained the A.R.T. reg’d qualification.
This training is ongoing and I also try and attend workshops and/or courses whenever possible to further my knowledge.
Since qualifying with A.R.T. I have adopted a more ‘clinical’ approach to reflexology – to my astonishment I find that some people believe reflexology is a kind of beauty treatment! I would like to stress that it has nothing to do with beauty – it is a deeply therapeutic treatment and a great deal more than just a ‘relaxing foot massage!’
I have treatment venues in both Nottingham and Mansfield and I also occasionally do home visits. Since starting out I have treated people with a great variety of conditions and made some good friends.
For the past three years I have also been doing part-time teaching of Indian head massage at a college in Nottingham as part of their enrichment programme. This takes place between September and December.
